Chelydridae is a family of turtles which has two living genera,Chelydra the snapping turtles, and its larger relative Macrochelys, of which Alligator Snapping Turtle(Macrochelys temminckiithe) is the only member. Both are endemic to the Western Hemisphere.

Snapping Turtles are noted for their belligerent disposition when out of the water, their powerful beak-like jaws, and their highly mobile head and neck. The largest freshwater turtle in North America, the alligator snapper keeps to primarily southern U.S. waters and can be immediately distinguished from the Common Snapping Turtle by the three distinct rows of spikes and raised plates on the carapace.

Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of species and subspecies of Snapping Turtles.
