Silkworm egg question

schwartzenstobe Feb 01, 2006 03:44 PM

I have some eggs that have been in the fridge for 3 months, and they are about to come out. Is it o.k. to keep them in longer? I am going to order food soon. tHANKS Matt

silkie eggs can remian viable in steady temps for up to 5 years. This is not to say that there will be no loss, but you can easily see their condition using a handlens. If the eggs are collapsed it is no good. but don't be confused between their natural indentation (looks sort of like a tire and is uniform all around); when collapsed they are usually uneven and looked they had the air sucked out. If you are planing to take them out soon you can check some and then separate what you think is viable and those that are not - then see what happens. I will try to get some pics of good and bad to post. I have thousands in the fridge and some have been there for nearly a year.
