Sorry I haven't paid attention to previous posts about "the best" light source to use while searching road cuts, but I can't seem to place a site or a name to them. Something to do with a "StubbyII"? seems to ring a bell but can't be sure. Anyway, I'll be taking my son on his first trip to "AlternaLand" this year and thought I'd try to get the best illumination I can afford.
Best...

whatever works for you.....sometimes i practice at home on the side of my house.....my wife puts out fake snakes of different species....then i walk along testing different types of lights to see which type is best for which species...then depending on what snake i wish to find i reach into my bag and use the appropiate light....i plan to market light bags for herpers, so we can carry all these different types of illuminating instruments in the field...........the possibilities.....

The light you are talking about is the Stubby II by Safe-t-lite company. You can find them on the web.

However, last year (at the suggestion of Rob K.) I bought a similar unit at Autozone here in San Antonio for about 1/4 the cost. One of the units has two lights in it that act independently. It is fun because you can use one light for general searching and click on the other when you need a little blast of light to get a better look at that little tiny dark wiggle way up on the cut.

Thanks to you both. I'll check into the info and see what I prefer.

I have since gotten the same light Chris, and I also found a 12v black light bulb you can put into it. With the 2 bulbs on the 912 you can have one normal and one black.. if have in interest in looking for things that show under UV.

That would be scorpions or urine, whatever you need to find?

BTW, the light is cheap ($15 - $20 for the 13 watt and $40 for the 26 watt) and works perfectly
