MASSIVE Surinam female.. Just got her..

PanamaRed Feb 01, 2006 05:05 PM

I got the big female surinam in today.. She is MASSIVE! 55 pounds don't know her lenght yet but she is the largest boa I have had in my hands.. I opened the monster box she came in and felt like a kid on christmas!

Pics aren't the best she just came in and was cold and dark but she is gourgous.

there's a C note in there for size reference..

here's a head for ya..

She is in a 48 x 28 x 14 inch cage in this pic and pretty much fills it up.. There is a water bowl in there she's just so tall bodied you can't see it!

I geuss I better get to the cage shop and get to work on a bigger cage...LOL...
I'll post good pics after she settles in..

Where did you get her? I must know. Awesome surinam BCC

B2 Berg Feb 01, 2006 08:47 PM

the San Diego Zoo and was a Surinam.

If I remember correctly, she came into their collection as an adult from the wild. She measure 16 feet with a head size that was amazing. The zoo posted the fact she had a huge litter, but I can't recall the number. Though it was staggering.

On a recent behind-the-scenes tour I asked the curator what happen to her. Apparently she died a few years back.

Those of you who may have seen her can vouch for what a huge animal this was.

You're is well on the way. Thanks for posting the photos.

I have seent that animal before and YES it was HUGE! Very nice too from what I remember. I remember snapping a pic of it's head but I lost it........Her head was enormous.

Psycodelic Feb 02, 2006 09:25 AM

a book in my High School Library that was published in the 1950's of a massive Boa that dropped a litter of 72. The babies appeared to be BCC but I was unsure because of the poor photography... Sound familiar???

and some peoples tastes in B.C.C., really are finicky, but that animal is gorgeous and " Classic Old School " as far as I am concerned! Would be proud to have her and I am sure that you are. Good luck and welcome to the world of " cleaning enormous turds! "......Johnson Herp

She is very impressive! And she affords an opportunity to pose a question that has been on my mind for some time. Who else is keeping giant adults? The emphasis is on breeding and the results...which is all good. But what is the eventual dispo to all those boas (thousands ) that are going to new homes yearly? We read about subspecific and geographic locale maximum lengths, but until now, I've not seen the subject discussed much. I think we'd all like to see what is out there if for no other reason than to prepare us for our respective futures. Giants! Post 'em if you got 'em!
