As far as the eyes way of blocking too much light from coming in...ive been looking at snake eyes specifically boa constrictors and some are real skinny and others are almost like they are opened wider. just never really thought about it. thanks.

i believe you can tell if a snake is noctornal or diurnal by their eyes. noctornal snakes will look like slits in day but open real wide at night. i have a solomon island boa that is like that. then my corns are more like ours. more rounded.
Snakes have muscles in their iris just like we do and can constrict those muscles to close down the iris just like we do, although the shape of the closed iris is different than ours in most species.
