cold stress

bobassetto Feb 02, 2006 06:34 AM

i just had my first bad experience with shipping in a long time...i purchased a jani off the classifieds....the individual shipped in a box with no insulation or heat pack....he is from ca....i'm in pa.....anyway when the snake arrived it wasin the shape of a philly soft pretzel....i figured it would recover, so i didn't really complain....i think the guy is inexperienced....anyway the snake still shows some symptoms of temp stress...does anyone have experience with this or a 2 year old female jani

Sorry to hear about this, but unfortunately I do not think there's much at all you can do. Especially for Jani, which would most likely not appreciate a dose of extra heat. I would make one corner of the cage hotter than average, but would leave the majority at room temp or cooler if possible. I had an Australian Python get stuck in an unexpected freak ice storm here in Texas and he was limp as a shoelace draped over my finger...I was about to toss him in the trash when he flicked his tongue. I gradually warmed it up, and 3 years later he is doing fine. I hope things go as well for you Tom Stevens

I agree with Tom, don't do anything dramatic. The main thought you should keep in mind is slow and easy. Smaller prey, slightly improved temps and let time adjust things. Snakes are very resilent and most times come out of it in a matter of several weeks.

Good Luck,
