Heat tape???

Louie1 Feb 02, 2006 11:57 AM

I was wondering who has the best prices for 11" and how many connectors should I get for about 50ft? Or should I just go with heat rope?

Thanks

i have never been a fan of the 11" heat tape. i would rather run parallel lines of the 3" tape than a single super wide 11".

i have seen a number of melted, burnt cages resulting from 11" heat tape mishaps. that stuff can run scary hot, and if/when your thermo goes out, or the probe gets misplaced, it is fire and melt city.

Have you ever used the heat cable? I just picked up a couple of lengths of this stuff from Big Apple Herp. It looks kind of thin and flimsy but the price isn't bad and it also looks like it has potential if it works well. I haven't built any racks to use it in yet so I don't know how it performs. I've been kicking around a few design ideas but I'm still not sure how to proceed. Anyone else have experience using this stuff?

i am not a huge heat cable fan, but we have used it succesfully in the past. the stuff that we used couldn't be cut to length, and if it crosses itself at any point, hello Sparky McMelt Melt!

The stuff I got can't be cut either. (At least I can't see how it's possible) I was sorry to hear about the melting part, I've had flexwatt do the same thing if you cross it or fold it, but this cable seemed better insulated. It's good to know that though so thanks for the info.
