New to Cresties

Gecko_shawn Feb 02, 2006 12:44 PM

hey all, just got my first crestie as a birthday present from my girlfriend (she's definitely a keeper :P) anyways I have years of experience with Leopard geckos (I have a breeding group of 6)and just wanted to see if this sounds right to you guys...20 gal tank, fake bushy plant (which Speck seems to never come out of...lol) some bamboo sticks going vertically and horizontally for climbing, small water basin, feeding dusted crickets, and Peach/mixed fruit babyfood with CGD mixed in. habitat is misted twice a day, once when I get up and again at about 8-10 at night. Speck is almost like a light rust red colour with a couple black dots on the back...quite an attractive little thing. He/she is about 2 months old(about 3-4 inches? total including tail) I'll have to get my lady to take some pics of the little dude to post..anyways, thanks for listening to my long boring intro..any feedback or suggestions are always appreciated.
thanks all
Shawn

welcome shawn.
the only thing you didn't mention is some type of substrate, i prefer coconut husk/fiber like bed-a-beast or eco-earth.
also, i would completely get rid of anything you're adding to the crested gecko diet. i guarantee they will eat it straight, just give that to them for a week or two every other day and they will take to it. dusted gutloaded crickets are fine as often as you want to feed them ( i do once every week or two)
enjoy it, i'm sure it won't be your last

I use eco earth myself, right on I'll try using straight CGD, Speck seemed to turn its nose up at it, but I'll keep tryin'.
thanks for the response

It's ok to mix the CGD with fruit babyfood, especially if it won't eat straight CGD. Just decrease the amount of babyfood slowly till you eventually end up with straight crested gecko diet. This is one way to wean them off baby food.
