Stop animals from moving probe

jsc230 Feb 02, 2006 07:09 PM

How do i set up the temperature probe so thatthe animal doesn't move it? It would be bad if it movedthe probetothe cool side andthe thermostat triedto heatthe cool side to 90F. Alos the animal would not be able to be on it. Currently i don'have a thermostat but I am getting my ball a 40g Long and i wantto get one for it.

Thanks

The easiest way is to put the probe on the flexwatt or under tank heater and adjust the thermostat. You may have to set the temp at 100 degrees to get the hot spot at 90 degrees. This way the animal isn't in contact with the probe and it will not get moved from the heat source. Hope this helps.

How about in a cage using Incandescents or Ceramic Heat Emitters?

My tegu keeps moving the probe around and it winds up getting a bit hotter then it should.

Perhaps I will try taping the probe to the wall on the hot side instead of leaving it directly under the heat emitter. I guess with the use of my infrared thermometer I could figure out the right temp to keep the thermostat set at.
