At Long Last!

wetceal Feb 02, 2006 11:27 PM

Some of you may have already read this on the Ball Python Forum, but for those of you who haven't, here's what happened...

After over a month of being on a wait list my new Nikon D200 is here and I LOVE IT! What a fantastic camera! Now I understand why the wait list was so long on these! I pre-ordered the camera right before Christmas time. At that time, the camera hadn't been released yet and there was already a long wait list for them. So, I added my name to the list and the retailers told me that they expected a shipment at the beginning of January. They were released at the end of December and the only place you could get your hands on one was on eBay but everyone was SELLING them for $400 to $500 OVER MSRP. I refused to pay that much more than MSRP so I waited.

Week after week went by and still no camera. The place where I ordered from said they had received a couple of shipments but everything was going to pre-orders ahead of me (they had close to 100 preorders). One day I get a call saying that they were getting in a bunch of Nikon D200 kits and would I like a kit instead? Well, I didn't really need the extra lens but I decided to get the kit because the wait list was MUCH shorter on the kits. They come in and mine gets shipped out. YEA! Or so I thought!

The box arrived a few days later, I signed for it and as soon as I picked it up, I knew something was wrong. The box was empty! I could tell it was empty as soon as I picked it up, I just didn't want to believe it. I opened it up and inside there is some plastic packing material, a packing slip/receipt and that's it! NO CAMERA!

I called up the retailer ASAP and apparently, they made some sort of mistake and shipped me an emtpy box! This wouldn't have been a problem except now they were out of D200 kits as well because they had all been shipped out to preorders!

ARGH! So I looked around and actually found another retailer who had some kits available for the same price! YEA! So to make a long story slightly shorter, here we are!

These are the first few "test" photos I have taken with the camera and let me just say that so far, it is amazing! The photo quality seems much higher than the D100 and I can't wait to really get the hang of it! I also purchased the Nikon R1 Close-up Speedlight system which I used in conjuction with my Nikon SB-800. I find that using the whole system allows me to produce a softer looking photo (not as much harsh, bright flash bounce back) and therefore shows the various different colorations on an animal much better.

Anyways, here are a few photos I took. Let me know what you guys think. These pictures have been resized but NOT compressed to preserve image quality so the files are slightly big.

Thanks for looking!
Celia

Jungle Boa

Hypo Jungle Boa

Sharp Sunglow - I know there was some discussion about Sharp Sunglows in the past and about their coloration. I just wanted to share some photos of one of our females. This girl is VERY colorful with no brownish/burnt coloration on her at all.

Motley Boa

Aztec Boa

Snow Boa

And some Hypomelanistic Panamanian Boas - We picked up a trio of these from John Berry recently. These guys are really unique (check out those eyes!) and have the sweetest personality. We are really excited to be working with them. Thanks again John!

And for those of you interested in seeing what the FULL sized photos look like, here's one of the head shot above. Be FOREWARNED - this file is HUGE! I would not recommend clicking on the link if you are on dial up. The file size is 3.15MB!

Awesome pics......I would really like to get a nice camera soon. Also, great looking boas but there was a pic missing right above the Hypo Panamanians

At first I didn't get what you meant...but I think you are talking about that Snow Boa...

If so, I thought, hmm...snow on a white background, oh well I'm too lazy to get out my black melamine!

Thanks,
Celia

awesome shots of awesome animals as always!

Wow, i love that aztec!

pick a favorite there, but I like the motley and hypo jungle the best. Thats a really nice Sharp Sunglow, but I just don't know if they warrant 2-3X the price of Kahl sunglows. I've seen some really nice Kahl sunglows that are comparable if not better than the Sharp sunglows. Just my humble opinion! lol. Again, great pics of beautiful boas and balls, Celia!

I know there are some Kahl Sunglows out there that simply rock. The Lipstick Line that the Burkes have is awesome. I'm just very interested to see how these Sharp Sunglows will mature compared to the Kahl Sunglows.

Anyways, I wanted to take some photos of our Kahl Sunglow too the other night but he was in shed. He shed out tonight so...........

Thanks,
Celia

Ya, tell Rich I, Doug M., and Ron M. that so I can get one for cheaper. I agree Celia, the lipstick line is my favorite as far as the Kahl sunglows go. Everytime I see Tom Burkes two girls from a couple years ago, they look better and better!

I have always thought your photos were the best. I don't know how you keep making them better! That aztec is just perfect, not to mention that smokin' sharp sunglow. Where did you get him? Not to be greedy, but please post some more shots. They are the only photos my girlfriend enjoys seeing. All I have to say is "Celia posted some new pics" and she stops watching whatever on the Food Network to take a peek. Thank you!

Michael Burton

Here is my best shot.

wetceal Feb 03, 2006 11:16 PM

That is really quite flattering because I know how addicting those shows are! We were just watching the Fire and Ice Food Network Challenge show where they had the sugar and ice sculpting competition. It's amazing what some of those artists can do with sugar!

Anyways, back to snakes, we have a trio of Sharp Sunglows that came from Ron Michelotti of Class Reptilia. What I find most interesting about the group is how truly unique and different each animal is. All three look nothing alike. I will definitely be posting more photos of this group as they grow and change!

Thanks,
Celia

WOW. The best photo set yet. Finally there is an acurate representation of Jungles and Sharp Sunglows, for those who haven't seen them in person. In fact all of those pictures capture the color perfectly!

I never did get a Hypo, but here is a picture of one of my Panamanians!

wetceal Feb 03, 2006 11:17 PM

I really love the temperament on these guys. It's amazing how calm and friendly they are! I could hardly get them to hold still while I was taking photos because they just kept coming at the camera to see what I was doing! I think they will be great to breed into the Bloods and Leopards and make some dwarf designers with maybe better temperaments to boot!

Thanks,
Celia

inquisitive (sp?). The Hypo Panamanians give another option for Hypo X Central American morphs. You can use Panamanian, Nicaraguan, Sonoran, Salmons, or Gee line Hypos. I would expect slight to extreme differences depending what type of Hypo is used. More options to add to the pool of fun!

As if your pics weren't good enough before! Gorgeous pics of some phenomenal animals.

Jeremy Stone Feb 03, 2006 01:43 PM

Celia,

Those are INCREDIBLE PHOTOS. Dangit, you're setting the Bar awful high, and for me trying to complete my web site, you're KICKING MY BUTT!!!!!! LOL

Best of luck to you and Sean this year in your breeding season, and keep posting those AWESOME MORPHS!!!!! Those Motleys and Aztecs are just incredible. MAN do those pictures get me all excited for the Baby season. Should be our Best here. So, keep inspiring us with those awesome photos.

Thank you for your willingness to share how you are taking such great shots. I went with the new Canon Rebel, and I love it, but I'm just a horrible photographer. LOL.

Thanks again for sharing. Take Care, Jeremy

Thanks for the kind words and best of luck to you this season too. It looks like you've got quite a few things cooking over there! Hope to see lots of NEW DESIGNERS!

Thanks,

WOW...... that full sized is.....insane!! I can even see your light and I think it's your camera reflected in the snakes eye.

I cropped your photo down to just the eye, no retouch:

Hey Celia! I'm becoming a big fan of the Jungles you guys are producing and that Jungle/Salmon is my favorite thus far. You are really making it easy for me to make up my mind! Beautiful! Please keep it up. Take care! AJ - Schneller Reptiles

wetceal Feb 03, 2006 11:28 PM

The Jungles are definitely super cool - such a great morph to work with! When that little Hypo Jungle girl was born, she had a big yolk that she hadn't fully absorbed and I was worried she actually wasn't going to make it. However, as you can see, she is now doing great and is actually surpassed most of her littermates as far as appetite and growth rate! You just never know what will happen...!

Thanks,
Celia

p.s. The Colombian Boas are doing great. A few of them have new homes already and the ones we still have are just killer animals - thanks again!
