Laws For Texas

toddbecker Feb 03, 2006 04:53 AM

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could assist me in finding a website or something that would aid me in determining the laws in Texas regarding the priveate keeping of hots as well as large boids(retics, burms, rocks, condas). I am figuring out where I want to retire to when I get out of the military in 5 years and the laws of the state will play a major impact on where I decide to reside. Thanks in advance for assistance, Todd

Texas does not regulate either unless it's a venomous snake native to Texas. Permits are available if you keep 10 or more atrox, lepidus, and a couple others. If you are selling them a different permit is required.

Some of the larger cities may have an ordinance, but most counties do not. Check with Animal Control for the city or county regulations.

Regarding county/city ordinances, I know Harris, Angelina and Nacogdoches county does not allow the possession of venomous reptiles.
However, that may have changed since I lived there.
I hear however that Travis is being considered because of somebody! LOL!

We are in Williamson Co. and I dont think there is any prohibitive law as far as the county goes. City or town is a different story.

I think City of Austin does prohibit hots though, inside city limits.

Thing is, you have to look at each individual city to be fore sure what they do and do not allow by law.
