Prevent -A-Mite question urgent!!!

snakeguy46 Feb 03, 2006 07:19 AM

I have used this product two days ago according to directions...all is great, no live buggers walking around.
I will let it do its job and catch the babies when they hatch.

My question is...can you still mist the reptiles douwn daily with this stuff in there? I know the can said not to replace reptile till it is completely dried...but is it wet again when you mist animals??

Breeding season is here and animals need misting, thanks for you help.

Pat

This isn't first hand knowledge, so add some salt, but I'd say give it a day and then go ahead. I'd be more concerned if your lacking ventilation, which indeed, is sometimes needed to get humidity up. An opinion anyway, hope it helps

I have never used prevent a mite but if it is like any other chemical used for mite BE VERY CAREFUL i would follow the directions to a T and if there is any question go with the safest solution for the animal. I asume the chemicals to be poison to the snakes and keep them from it as much as possible. One think I used that worked realy well(and i cant remember the name) but it is flying insect killer it is a bar of plastic imprenated with insect killer about 2in by 6in and it came in a orange and yellow packing. You have to do some math calculating the volume of the cage to find out how much of the bar you need (DO NOT USE TOO MUCH IT IS TOXIC) but for a 30x30x18 cage i used a 2x1/2x1/2 in piece. If it helps I found it at tractor supply company

Yes you can mist the cage but I would mist lightly as to not dilute/wash away the PAM. What is toxic to reptiles in PAM is the carrying/disbursing agents in the spray. That is why you have to let PAM dry throughly before putting the snake and water bowl back into the cage. By the way Equate Bedding Spray at Walmart is the same as PAM at $4 a can. The only thing Equate does not have is directions for reptiles on its can. Use it exactly like PAM. Bill

Thanks for the info...my walmart was out of the bed spray so I spent the $15 for a can of PAM. Do you know whan the eggs of mite hatch?

Thanks again

Not sure of the hatch cycle of the eggs. I do know that most people treat their cages a second time two weeks later and this seems to end the mite problem. Bill.
