If its good enough for Ralphs or Petes collection its good enough for mine. Ive got enough to worry about, I PAY TO NOT WORRY ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

If im buying a snake that cost $2k plus, I better not even have to think about a quarantine. If I do, youre getting passed up for the next breeder, regardless of price. Quarantine is for imports and people I dont trust to take care of their animals. I pay to not worry about that!

Buy your $400 het pied male or pay $800 for one you know wont mess up your whole project.

It would seem that you would run less of a risk with big breeders - However from what I've been hearing RIs have been running thru even the big breeders collections this winter - most likely due to cooling, but who knows. Also theres the added risk if the animal is shipped to you that it's caught a cold along the way.

Just some additional things to think about. At the very least if you get the animal from a big breeder and it wipes out your collection, the big breeder will be able to reimburse you for your loss.

NEVER ASSUME!!!!!

johnavilla Feb 03, 2006 02:16 PM

Even if I bought from one of these guys I would still quarentine. It is just a good idea. Some might even argue that it is more important to quarentine when purchasing from a big breeder becouse they get in a lot of wild caughts and a large breeding facillity is a good incubater for disease. I would generally assume that these breeders have very stringent quarentine procedures and that their snakes are clean but I would err on the side of caution. I was just surprised to hear that this person followed NO quarentine.

I think its great that a guy posts a pic of a snake he is obviously excited about and had it lock up first go, and is excited about that, and all people can do is slam him for it. So what, he doesnt keep his snakes separated... thats his "thing" if they get sick, he will have to deal with it, you separate, and thats your "thing" you can keep em apart, and 6 months down the road they may still pass RIs and sickenss back and forth... what you do doesnt mean everyone has to do it. As long as his snakes are healthy in his eyes and he is willing to deal with whatever ahppens, its on him.... Is it so hard to be happy for the guy for 2 seconds..... thats just my opinion... do what ya want with it.

toshamc Feb 04, 2006 09:46 AM

Not saying I disagree with you = but its more about the health and safety of his snakes and what kind of picture people get when they read stuff like that. Snakes should be quarantined for a minimum of 30 days regardless of who's collection they came from. Great he got it from a trusted source and yeah its probably unlikely that its going to be passing around disease, but you still run the risk and it still should have been quaranteened.

Bottom line: We try not to encourage irresponsible behavior.

real bottom line Tosh.....

majority of people buy a wild collected ball from a pet shop and wonder what went wrong.....

pet shops recycle substate........and tanks.....

balls are all thrown in tank with the left over balls from last shipment

and the heat sources people use are totally sucky(best word)LOL.....and dry out snake and really don't make them warm.....

use 250 Watt bulbs right???plywood and glass and kitty litter for substrate.......and a big Pyrexx bowl for water ? should I really spray ant and roach spray on the snake to kill mites ? ir should I spray the tank once a week?.......plus the pest strip in there all the time......and feed it baby chicks cause I get them free from a guy who breeds pigeons out back (I steal them at night)...baby kittens?........or is that baby cats?>.........

night......zzzzzzz
