Question about Females...

darrylchin86 Feb 03, 2006 01:32 PM

Hi guys.
I'm kinda new to snakes,i've only had my 1st BP for 2 months and he's doing well.
I was interested in getting a female one also, but I was wondering if they require special/different treatments compared to males.
I've read in some posts about them not being fed for a bit,but can someone clarify this for me? Is it because they are going to be bred that they underfeed or something?
I'm prolly guessing that the 1st year or so the care doesn't differ, but I just want to be sure.
I'm really interested in getting an Albino BP...
Thanks in advance for all your help.

No - males and females are kept the same - during the winter both of them could possibly go off feed - this is sole up to the animal and has little to do with the sex - just their instinct.

Most people say that they feed their males every other week and their females every week. What kind of feeding scedule do you use?

That's because they are trying to get their females up to size for the next breeding season. You don't really need a really large male to breed.

Thanks alot for the promt reply and clearing it up for me!

Actually, if you intend to breed them, females should get fed MORE than males. What you are probably thinking of is that a lot of wild caught females are very hard to get to feed. there are other times that females may not feed but there are other people here that know more about that than me so I'll leave it to them to elaborate. Hope that clarifies it for you.
