Lesser Platinum Comparison Photos

wetceal Feb 03, 2006 02:59 PM

For Mark and anyone else who might be interested, here are some comparison photos I took of our new RDR line Lesser Platinum male with the African "Lesser?" that we have. As you can see, the two are similar yet very different looking. These photos are okay and were taken with my old camera. I will definitely be taking some new photos with the new setup in the near future!

The RDR line Lesser is the animal on the right in the first couple of photos. Let me know what you think...

Thanks for looking,
Celia

Hello,

Noah (in Africa) bred a "Lesser" which he obtained from the wild to a seemingly normal female. Well I'm sure she wasn't a normal as why would he breed a normal?? He affectionately named the "normal" female "Queen Belinda" after his wife, or so the story was told to me. When the queen's clutch hatched there were A couple Blue-Eyed Leucisitics, Lesser looking ones and normals. Now the Blue Eyes looked like the standard Blue Eyes that came out first, not the super white ones that followed. Since we don't know how these white snakes differ genetically, we won't go on referring to them by names or anything just yet. Of the "Lesser" looking babies this one stood out from the rest. What caught my eye was the Cinnamon Pastel like "floating saddles" that he had down his sides. His color was also different aside from the side pattern and I thought the clutch was intriguing. I was offered the animal by a state side party that was buying the rest of the clutch and I happily excepted the deal.

As for the price range of something like that... I don't really know. The fairest thing I could come up with was paying a little more than what I could get an RDR line animal for here on U.S. turf and that was accepted. The animal is cool looking and I feel he is a great addition to our collection. However his background does NOT include all of the fantastic hidden things that come with the RDR line so I never considered him a replacement for that other line. This is the reason that I pursued the RDR line Lesser that I have in these photos with the African one.

Is he something new?? I hope he is but I will be happy if I can just produce some nice females with his odd looks. As for those reading this that have known me for a while... I know I said I'd never buy an animal from Africa because of the risk but this time I couldn't pass on this captive bred african animal!

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks...

That African is noticeably darker and the pattern is different but otherwise they are very similar. It'll be interesting to compare their offspring. Are they both male?

Thanks for the compliments!

Celia really need to continue taking photos of these animals together as they are growing up to be quite different from one another. I had the african one in Daytona and Chicago and I was surprised by the number pf people that thought it was a Hypo Mojave or something other than a Platinum animal. The african animal as well as the RDR line animal are both males.

The RDR line animal was purcahsed from John Piro and is a clutchmate to those Leucistic animals that he hatched in mid 2005. As you probably know John's pair of Lessers that produced this animal were both direct offspring from the Platty Daddy male.

For just a bit more background on the african animal, please read my post to Gary Crain above this one.

Thanks again!

It does look very interesting, I don't recall ever having seen that oculi type pattern on any lesser before. You're right, it is very much like the cinnamons pattern. I hope it turns out to be something new that it'll pass on to its offspring.

Thanks JY... I appreciate the compliment and I can't wait to produce some more!

Maybe you were thinking of the Phantom, they are similar to Mojave's but not the same. Also the Vin Russo line of Het. Leucys. They are all similar in that they produce blue eyed white snakes when bred between themselves.

This is fun stuff!

Take care...

Very nice Celia...that camera takes AMAZING photo's (well, you take the photo's, the camera does the work !

Just out of curiousity, could you possibly take a pic of the African Lesser with the RDR lesser as well as a Mojave. Your animal seems to have similar traits to both Mojave's and the lesser and I think it would make an interesting comparison.
