Aim a heat lamp over a regular rock, don't use an artificial heat rock; they've been known to cause burns.

Light for sure! Something with UV too.
I use both. I have a heat rock at one end within inches of the UVB lights and a heat lamp at the other end. The lizards spend more time on the heat rock. Once summer comes and the room is very warm I don't use the heat lamp because it adds to the heat of the room. I have 12 heat rocks going for about 10 years with no burns.
Will,
Thanks for your input. It is helpful to hear of folks using heat rocks for their collareds with success.
My main concern with heat rocks is the increased liklihood of burns when the rock is placed too close to a heat lamp. I have seen a lizard's belly cooked by this configuration because the combination of the two heat sources turned the rock into a hotplate. That is the main reason that I didn't recommend them.
