!! My snake isn't eating !!

eat2muchrice Jul 26, 2003 02:27 AM

I have a Arazona King and he hasn't eaten in 6-8 weeks. I have the temprature set at 75 night 85 day, humidity at 55, clean cage, fresh water, hiding rock, heatpad, I have everything set perfect and he still won't eat. He seems healthy, very active, not shedding, no noticable body weight loss. He is about 27 inches long and maybe a year and a half old. I normaly feed him 1-2 live fuzzys a week, but now rejects them all. I'm getting very worried about him and I'm thinking about force feeding him a few strips of raw steak. Is it mateing season or something? is this mormal for him to do during summer? Should I force feed him? or am I doing something wrong? please help. Thanks.

Monitor the weight. If it starts losing weight then THINK about assist feeding. Try offering the food at different times of day and don't constantly try to offer food. Every few days try something different. Search the archives on this subject. There are tons of posts filled with tons of ideas. Good luck. Keep us "posted".

My snake still isn't eating, Its been 2 months. A few days ago he had yellow poop and his skin color looks likes he needs to shed. I'm not sure how much longer he can go without food. Does anyone know how long a kingsnake can go without eating? He still seems to have body fat, so i'm not sure if i should force feed him. Please help

I have two gray bands that are now yearlings. But last fall after I moved my male refused to eat. They were living in a classroom until I moved again cus my mom is phobic. He didn't eat for almost 3 months, then I moved and took them with me. Forcefed him some egg yoke and he fed the next day. He was either stressed or attempting to brumate. I wouldn't feed him raw beef, I'd be worried about bacteria. It sounds like you just need to wait, the yellow poop is just water and nitrates I think, so he's not dehydrated. Maybe make sure there aren't any loud nows, cats staring at him while your away, ect.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not as stressed now as I was before. I'm going to make another attempt to feed him on sunday. Instead of fuzzys i'll try pinkies. If that doesn't work we'll be eating fresh steak.

Arazona King,
