Aberrant Black Milksnakes

Keith Hillson Feb 03, 2006 11:44 PM

I knew my yearling Black Milk was produced by Don Soderberg of South Mountain Reptiles. The guy I got it from said it was real aberrant. I couldnt really tell as it was pretty much black when I got it last month except some faint pattern on the first 1/3 of the snake. Don Soderberg has a pic of an aberrant on his website and due to my extreme nerdism I had snake in hand and compared him to that pic and HA same snake. Nice to see a pic of the guy before he went black. My question is and yes there is a few...Does anyone know if the aberrants are genetic ? Has anyone bred two aberrants together ? Maybe a super tiger type effect ??? Its moot of course as the pattern becomes obscured but it makes for cool looking babies. Here are the pics I was referring to above...

yeah keith i saw that too,and immediately recognized it as yours(remember,i commented on it being your best pic)....funny.well as i'm sure you know, those abberrancies are pattern anamolies, not pigment anamolies-so they are not predictable in such a mathematical/formulaic way(e.g. punnett squares)...

Yeah thats what I was thinking as well thats why I was curious if anyone bred to aberrants together. The baby pic is Don Soderbergs not mine...my Wife was looking at me funny sitting with the snake in front of the computer lol.

A couple of years ago I was deciding which black milk juvenile to buy. The guy had 4 males left and selling them cheap. I think 50 $ anyway after looking them over for several minutes trying to decide on the prettiest pattern I remembered they change to solid black. I just picked the biggest of the bunch. He is almost pure black now and looking real good.

Keith,

If you breed that snake to a normal there is a good chance you will get babies that are semi-aberrant. And if you keep breeding down the line the generations will get crazier and crazier. Nice snake.
