I mentioned to someone I was into Black and yellow and a friend sent me this picture. Paste it into your browser, put on some sun glasses and enjoy.

Wow! That's beautiful!
What is it though, a krait?

Stenophis citrinus is a colubrid snake from Madagascar no common name so I hereby name it Killer Yellow snake.

I believe the genus has since been changed to Lycodryas.
Did your friend indicate the date of the photo and whether the specimen was still alive?
L. citrinus have proven extremely difficult to maintain in captivity, for any extended period of time and only a handful of specimens appear to have been exported, legally, from Madagascar to the U.S. and Switzerland between 2001 – 2002, which caused a great deal of alarm at the D.C.S.P. , as the only two regions the genus is known to inhabit are Tsingy de Bemaraha and Tsingy de Namoroka, both being areas of protected limestone karst in western Madagascar.
They are beautiful animals, though specialist feeders and known to be extremely difficult to maintain within the vivarium…

Jeff

I have no date but I did find the same picture on the EMBL Database. I do like a challange. I may have to look into getting some. Siphlophis compressus is also on my hit list and I now have access to some.

They are rarely available and those that are generally come from illegal origins.
I'd be exceptionally careful regarding such an acquisition and broadcasting my intent...
Good luck,
Jeff

I keep a papertrail for all my imports and I make sure that everything is legal but I will look a little deeper into it. Thank you for the heads up.

Interesting snakes, I had a pair for a couple years and maintained them on a diet of small geckos. Actually had 3 live babies during that time but I was unable to rear them as they were dwarfed by even hatchling house geckos - possibly needed frog eggs? Definately a difficult species at best.

I have an endless supply if cricket frogs and their eggs!
-----
I saw some Stenophis spp. listed on an importers list, so it looks as though they are allowing controlled export of the genus...
Best regards,
Jeff
