My new Milksnake

captrod Feb 04, 2006 06:43 PM

I finally got my wife to give in and let me get one. I had decided to get a Nelson, but when I seen this guy I had to have him. He is a little skittish when I first pick him up, but he calms right down. He ate a pinky mouse today, so I have not been messing with him much.

That is an awesome snake! What does the rest of your enclosure look like? Derek

Here is a picture. I am using an under the tank heater. I had just the bark in the tank, but he started burrowing under it. I was afraid he would get burned on the heater if he got next to the glass and I also wanted to be able to check on him easily. So I ran out and got the reptile carpet and the hiding enclosures. I then put down a fine layer of the bark again.

That is really nice. Great Job! Derek

Does he ever come out from under the bark? My Jalisco milk stays buried under his Cypress Mulch 24x7. Here's a couple of pics of him when I had him out and one before I added the mulch.

I do not have enough bark in there for him to hide under now. When I did he went right under, but was out when I got back with the carpet. I put the caves in there so he feels like he is hiding, but I can still check on him without disturbing him. He has come out of his hiding spots a few times since I put it in there yesterday afternoon.

Pueblan, right? Where'd you get him?

No he is a Honduran. I got him from a local store for 85.00. I am calling him a he, but I really do not know. I need to replace my set of probes so I can find out for sure. I will worry more about that later down the road. I really like the Tangerine color phase. I still want a pair of albinos though, and once my wife gets comfortable this guy I will most likely get a pair of Albino Nelsons and Albino Tangerine Hondurans.
