Squeak noise from baby Sulcata

lisainsr707 Feb 04, 2006 08:23 PM

I've noticed the past couple days that my baby Sulcata makes a squeak-like noise every now and then. At first I thought it was his feet making a noise on the floor of his cage while he's digging around. But I've heard him make it and looked over and he's sleeping, so it's not from him scratching or digging with his feet.

His eyes and nose are clear and his breathing is quiet and normal, I soak him at least 3 times a week, he eats really well and poops quite a bit (I've also caught him eating poop, ACK!) just every once in awhile I hear a little squeak-toot type noise out of him.

He never does it while I'm watching him of course, so I'm not even sure which end of him it's coming out of. Do Sulcatas pass gas? or burp? I've been taking advantage of all the new grasses and weeds that are sprouting up in our vegetable garden, maybe something gave him gas? I only give him weeds/greens that I recognize and that are on the list of safe plants.

I guess my question is Do Sulcatas fart? LOL

I was finally looking at him when the noise happened! He's making it with his mouth, like he's grinding his teeth, rubbing his jaw back and forth.

Is that a normal type of thing for them to do? Is he just keeping his mouth in shape like a parrot does?

I'm not sure what it means when they do that but I have seen mine do it before too. When I have seen her do it usually it's in the afternoon after she's been asleep for quite a while. She'll sit awake for a while, do that thing with her beak, then yawn, then sort of smack her mouth, then get up & go outside to graze. Maybe it's their way of getting it together without coffee?
