Beardie hasnt eaten anything in 4 weeks

sunbirdx Feb 04, 2006 11:30 PM

Hi guys,
My boy Bender (1 yr 3 mos) hasn't eaten in four weeks and hasn't pooped in about 3. He hasnt shed in probably six. He has been drinking at mistings and during his weekly baths. In the fall he was treated for a flagellated protazoa and later aspergellosis (I think). I am fairly certain that all got cleared up and that he began to bruminate. He just became really innactive despite high lights and perfect temps (yes I know my temps and I take them with a digital). Every once in a while he picks at veggies, but never insects. I really would like him to snap out of this cycle, I fed him baby food from a syringe tonight and he lapped up about 4 ccs of carrot with calcium. He also took a bath and drank quite a bit. I am just not sure what to do with him here. Any suggestions?

Offer him some non fat/unsweetened fruit yogurt, or you can offer him some probiotics (the yogurt works almost in the same way, as it is an active bacterial culture) and much easier to get ahold off (also I can remember how to spell it, never can remember h ow to spell the recommended probiotics..pediatlyte or accillyphis..or something like that).

Often after any parasitical treatment, the drugs used to treat the parasites often destroy alot of the beneficial gut flora and this often leads to dehydration and loss of appetite. By giving a probiotic you h elp reestablish the guy flora and appetite will subsequently increase.

As your dragon was brumating, he wouldn't eat much or anything during that time and they will brumate whenever they feel like it, even if you h ave not decreased daylight lenths or
basking temperatures. Monitor his weight, rapid weight loss is an indicator of something more seriously wrong. healthy dragons will drop some weight during burmation, maybe 10-15g a month. My female went into burmation for about 4 months and lost about 50g during that time but woke up with a healthy appetite.
