Rack systems?

SnowflakeMadiera Feb 05, 2006 08:14 AM

I was wondering how many different rack ideas there are out there? I would love to have more than just two snake. But I can't spend 2 thousand dollars on a place for them all to live, lol. The idea of just having racks are great and it wouldn't take up so much room...seeing that it goes up and the snakes don't scatter everywhere, lol. But my real question is...how do I build one. I'm not to bright on that kinda stuff, lol. And would need some directions or something on how to make one. Can anyone help...pictures are VERY welcomed.

That looks very nice. I was wondering though. If I made one for my adult snakes. But it be bigger....of course, lol. But would it be ok for them. Is there a way I can make them big enough to still put there decoations and stuff in it.

Rack systems are for those that don't have much space or need to be economical. You really can't put the display stuff in them. Most of the ones that I have seen have a hide and a water dish. The racks would be fine for adult corns. You can either heat the room, or have flex heat under the tubs.

You can make them any size you wish, but i agree with the other post. First thing is to buy the rubbermaid tubs(which ever size you prefer) then build the rack to fit those. I only have 120$ wrapped up in each of mine(including heat) , so its fairly inexpensive!

Wow....that sounds great for the price, lol. $2000 sounds like a a lot money for me,lol.

The rack sytems that I was looking at are made by vision. heres the link http://visionproducts.us/racks/htm2/pricing.html
The displays that I was talking about in the previous posts are sold by Zoo-Med. Hope this helps

I got this one for $100 when the local petstore upgraded to the $2000 ones.

I went to Lowes and bought some gray metal shelves that were 36 inches long by 12 inches deep. Then I put my BARRs cages that also happened to be 36X12 onto the shelves. You can adjust the height on these metal shelves. I think they are meant for garages and basements.

Check out the supplies and caging section of Kingsnake classifieds. Sometimes people will move and have to get rid of racks. I just picked up racks to hold 24 adults and 78 hatchlings for much less than half what I'd have paid new. Tubs and all.

It was very easy to make. In fact, I have the directions for doing it on my website....if you're interested, you can check it out free of charge.lol. I explain and answer any and all questions about those racks....I've built a bunch more and have pics of them all on the site.

Wow!!! Thanks so much... But I did noticed that you said you did not have any heaters undernieth them because your room was made for you snakes. And they were also made out of plastic...so does that mean it wouldn't be such a good Idea to use a heater under them? Or is there one that is safe for plastic? Because...I don't want one that has a chance of burning my house down. I have A LOT of animlas and stuff that I would like to keep for as long as possible,lol...if you know what I mean, lol.

carl3 Feb 14, 2006 04:36 PM

I'm not 100percent certain but I believe PVCx has a heat resistance of 130 degrees..meaning it will not bend/warp unless exposed to that temp...I'm not sure what the melting temps are but I can't imagine you'd wanna go any higher than low to mid 90's with heat tape.

So...it would be possible to run heat tape with that material.
