Taken just this past week. He is still limping some but it's only been 3 months since he was put back together, I think he's done remarkably well for one who was so horribly injured.
Here he is in 2 shots taking his daily walk around the turtle proofed parts of the house:

Look'n frisky

PHRatz Feb 07, 2006 10:45 AM

Thanks
I am proud of him for doing so well. His will to live has just blown me away, I am very happy that we've been able to help him do that.
And frisky he is, a little TOO frisky lol.
Since he's feeling better I always have to keep the females out of his sight, he'll harass them every chance he gets.
The deal now is the females get their baths, meals & out time earlier than they used to so that I don't have to skimp on their time out. Then after they go back he gets to come out for his bathing & exercise.
I'll be so glad when spring arrives & they can all spend most of their time outdoors.

What a sweetie! I always wonder how aware animals are. For example, does he recognize you as someone who helped? Does he associate your help with his recovery?

I know I am often stretching it, part part of me thinks there has to be some awareness!

When the go outside, do you plan on keeping Chip separated from the females?

I think he is aware to some degree. I think he's aware that I've helped him but how much he would associate me with recovery would be anyone's guess.
I know for certain he knows me and recognizes me.
I've discovered that he will look at me when I call his name. They all do that but he hadn't been here very long when I called his name & he looked UP at me, that really surprised me. In the past it's been only Shell E who would look UP to see me, now Chip does it too. Shell E was also dog chewed, that's why I ended up keeping her. That's always made me wonder, has Shell E been aware that I helped her too?
I was there the day she was put back together, I watched her struggle & fight until the vet pulled her back together. The moment he did that she stopped fighting him. I saw her become a pet at that moment, she relaxed & was never aggressive toward anyone ever again. She was our only box turtle at that time, she turned into Princess Shell E who seems to think she is queen of the world. lol

One day a month or so ago someone was here wanting to see Chip so I got him out but when he saw the stranger he peed all over me.
He never pees on me, ever... so that must mean he trusts me but a stranger frightens him.
Another thing, he's never tried to bite me so I thought he's a nice little guy who's not very aggressive but his vet told me that when he's there oh no it's not like that at all.. he's tried to bite several people there. lol
Of course they do all sorts of things to him that he doesn't like so he's going to be upset when he's there.

>>When they go outside, do you plan on keeping Chip separated from the females?

Absolutely. Since my pen didn't get built in the fall & I must have it in spring no ifs ands or buts, the plan now is to wall off part of it just for Chip. He'll have his own section to stay in for day time only. I'm leery about letting him stay outside 24/7 this year. The girls are going to stay out in their section 24/7, they'll be much happier that way.

Hobo, when he wakes up.. geeze I don't know what we'll do with him just yet. He can't stay with Chip or the girls so I still have to think about what to do with him.
He is VERY aggressive so maybe we'll just leave him with the run of the lawn but I hate to do that because of the sulcata. Maybe we'll build another pen on the other side for him. I don't know yet. We're getting too crowded here. :-x
