Coral SunGLOW

Snapped some available light shots of her earlier. I like the way they came out (although some slight white balance variation).

Nice shots, but looks like you could use some more light (not sure about the white balance, since I can't see the actual live snake to compare the shots to). Check out picasa2 (free) by google. Small footprint, has some great quick edits and speedy email (with auto resize set to your preference) options. Anyways, know this isn't a photo critique forum, but you brought up the white balance issue so thought I'd add my opinion. Picasa2 has saved me tons of time.

SWEET coral on that boa!

Although actually I purposefully made it so they would have the "not enough light" look. There is another floro right above them that I could have turned on and I also have a fairly high end flash system. There is something about the shadows and texture brought forth from a single small light source that I like.

light situations. I could have brought the exposure back up right in post processing but I wanted to leave them untouched.

Yup. I know exactly what you mean. Indoor lighting can be difficult even with a really nice camera. Lighting is the most important part. You can set the white balance on your camera with a white or grey card I'm assuming (?)

when I move around and block some areas of the light it changes the lightings color slightly.. so even though there is a single light source, with more or less shadow the kelvin changes. To do it right I would have had to take a grey card shot for every angle I did... I did do 3 or 4 though... for the most part they are dead on.

I do my calibration in post processing. Take a grey card shot and calibrate it to that using Nikon Capture afterwards. I could calibrate the actual camera but that is more of a pain.

Mark,
Did you produce those two? Have any pics of the parents? I've always wondered if a het coral or a DH coral sunglow has any pink or pastel color thoughout their bodies or does the coral colors just show up in the albinos and sunglows?

This is the mom. She is gravid in this pic from a striped ghost male, hopefully dominant.

and here she is just before the breeding season.

And here is dad. Kinda drab actually, not alot of secondary color eaither.

Here is the very dark female that is sibling to the sunglows, you can tell she is coral even as dark overall as she is. She should throw some awesome Coral sunglows and albinos this next season.

Thanks for the interest and comments!

Mark

Thanks for all of the info.

The male she bred this season was a male ghost from Bill Kirby. This ghost male is striped and is possible dominant. Its mother was the female that produced the first litter of ghosts ever, and the father was one of the ghost males born in that first litter bred back to mom. In ever litter there has been some stripeing.

So maybe ill be the first to produce striped salmons het for coral snoglow? Any one else working on similar projects? be nice to find some thing similar but in another outcrossed line
Here are the two going at it.
Please excuse the mess...

Ryan that sunglow is so pretty I would love to see that one in person. How does it feel to own such beautiful animals?
I tell you I wouldn't have a social life because I would be in the snake room all day holding and taking pictures of them all day LOL
