incomplete bredli shed...humidity?

captnemo Feb 05, 2006 02:05 PM

I recently acquired a pair of Bredl's pythons and the male just had an incomplete shed. I helped him finish w/ some warm water, but was wondering if short periods of high humidity during a shed would be risky. I've heard too much humidity in this species may lead to a R.I. and I don't want to take any chances. Thanks in advance.

well, i have a jcp and when he goes into shedding i will mist his tank several times. sometimes 2 times day till he sheds. i've never had a problem with him getting URI. i think for a short time its ok but i'm no expert. just a pet owner and this is what i do.

i have had to help him shed also a couple times but if i mist his tank and sometimes him he has complete sheds.

Thanks for the info. I also have a pair of JCP's, which always have complete sheds because I keep the humidity up during this time. My concern w/ the Bredl's is that most of the research I have done on these snakes tell me that humidity too high is bad for their health. That's why I'm a little hesitant to mist them too heavily.

mist the snake itself. If you put your sprayer on the finest mist, and aim well above the snake so that it just falls down on them they don't seem to freak out too much and they get wet. I have a couple snakes that I have to be careful keeping too wet and thats what I do, they all shed well. That way, they cage stays fairly dry but they can absorb some moisture. Just a thought, Eric-

Thanks, Eric. That's what I did, but I may have been a bit hesitant to spray too much. My female should go blue shortly, so I'll try it again on her.

All my snakes (except the chondros) love to soak. I have the hummidity bounce between 37 - 51 %. I have never had an RI but I always have full complete beautiful sheds. I love unrolling an 8 foot JCP shed. Way Cool.

I agree! My JCP's are only about half that size, and it is satisfying seeing that newly shed skin. I've never had a problem with any of my other snakes' sheds, but the Bredli's. I've noticed they don't soak or use the hide w/ the damp sphagnum, even during a shed. Do you mist, or do your centralians soak as well?

My centrilians are soaking as I type. They love the water
