Loads of Gargoyle Gex Questions

thefiradragon Feb 05, 2006 02:36 PM

I am not new to keeping reptiles but i am new to Rhaco geckos. My Fiance has fallen in love with Gargoyle geckoes. we both have been looking at the XL exoterra terrarium. is there anything special i should know about them?
what size watt bulb would you guys reccomend to warm the tank? if i used power compacts for the lighting (I want to do live plants like i have with my dart frogs) would that produce sufficent enough heat, or would i have the heat lamp as well? with humifity should i add a humadifier to the cage or a mist machine? I hear from different sources that they need UVB lighting and from other that i dont.

as far as supplement go will herative and reptical be good for them? or should i stick to nekton and miner-all I?

with my leopard geckos I have them dish trained for mealworms and other insects. do gargoyles adjust well to the dish?

will they reconize standing water or do they need it running all the time or just mist enough so that they can drink the water dropletts off the leaves?

with feeding what is that nectar mix and where can i get it?

thank you for being patient with all my questions

I am confident of my ability to out-think, out-con, or if need be, tire-iron-upside-the-head demonic forces, ghosts and goblins, things that go bump in the night, etc. It’s the notion of something that doesn’t have any desire to talk to me except via anal probe that freaks me out"

If you're keeping dart frogs well, then you definately have what it takes for gargoyle geckos. The setup is perhaps identical. Differences might include sturdier climbing plants. Don't worry about heat unless your room is overly cold. The full spectrum lighting will probably do well for your plants and any benefits (controversial) will spill over to your gecko as well. These bulbs don't emit much heat, but will allow a bit of a thermal gradient. I like a range throughout the upper 70's. For water and food, they arn't very difficult. I've never seen mine drink from the pond feature, but will readily lick up misted droplets. I feed a variety of baby foods (commercial gecko foods should be good too), and calcium dusted crickets. I don't think a dish would be problematic, but don't use one myself.
