Helix sensor placement question???

MotaRaider Feb 05, 2006 03:07 PM

I recently bought 2 421D cages from Boaphile enterprises and theyre great. I also bought a Helix DBS-1000 to go with them. My question is where do i place the sensor. My Helix says 89 degrees but my thermometer says only 80. Where do i set the sensor to read better? Any advice at all as how to keep the temps up would be appreciated.

Jason

Best location is directly on the heat pad. If you stacked the two cages, sandwich the sensor between the two cages directly under the heat pad for the upper cage. Your thermostat will need to be set so the heat pad is hot enough to get the cage temps you want, typically some number of degrees warmer. Do you have a temp gun? I use mine to spot check the cages and adjust the thermostat as needed.

BTW, I have 12 boaphile cages (6-421D, 3-421Townhouse and 3-421condo), 3 boaphile hatchling racks, and lots of homemade cages/racks. In total I have 5 helix, 1 double ranco from boaphile and one other don't remember mfg thermostat and I like the Helix the best. Looking to get a few more for additional thermostat needs and future expansion.

What is the PVC pipe for on the sides of your cages for?
Just curious...humidity

describe it in the post!!

The pipes allow me to interconnect as many or as few of my 2'x 2' x 18" sections as I want. I breed BRB's and they normally get one section each. At breeding time (NOW) the tubes get opened up to allow the snakes to cruise around, find each other, mate and WOOHOO, babies later. Seems to work pretty good. Last year I split the overall cage into two vertical stacks of 4 cages each (kept the cross tubes blocked). With 2.7 breeders split into 1.3 and 1.4 colonies, I produced 136 babies. Got the same plan going this year......keep your fingers crossed.

The pipes were my own original idea, feel free to copy if you want!!
