Starting a Herp Society?

Djinn Feb 05, 2006 03:23 PM

Hello folks~~>

I live in northern Minnesota and we don't have a herp society up here. The closest one is in Minneapolis. As I'm sure many of you know, this can be a lonely hobby. The internet is cool, but not like person to person interaction. I'm wondering, how does one start up a Herp Society? Is there a "How to" book, or website somewhere?
The laws up here are pretty loose concerning exotics, but what if someone on the board gets scared and wants to change the laws? There is no orginization in place to fight/represent the herp lovers!
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

jason

Thanks for the info. I drove down to a few meetings, but it's a 4 hour drive from Bemidji. One of the reasons I want to start one up here is to be able to hang out and be involved with folks regularly.

thanks

Jason you could become a chapter of the MHS. instead of your own herp society that way when there is a crisis you could fight it together. GE
