55 or 10 gallon

animalkeeper Feb 05, 2006 03:45 PM

As of right now, i have my ball python in a 55 gallon aquarium. Over the past couple weeks, i have been debating on whether or not to place him in a 10 gallon and turn my 55 gallon into a carniverous plan terrarium. is a 10 gallon too small? it seems that he uses most of the 55 gallon, always climbing on things. Would it be ok if i "decked out" my 55 gallon with foilage and "furniture" to make it look really nice and leave him in the 55?

55gal a little big for a hatchling, I find they fair well in smaller cages.
10Gal is too small for any ball python, as it's difficult to get a proper heat gradient.
Best to try and get a 20gal long (around 2' X 12" X 12" untill it needs a larger cage (assuming your ball is only around one-two feet long...
Good luck.

Get a 20 or 25 gallon aquarium for the BP, put the plants in the small one, and put fish or a big snake in the 55.

That's what I would do.
