unknown gecko found

monkeychemist Jul 26, 2003 08:50 AM

Hello,

I used to frequent this message board a couple years ago and I think you guys are the only ones who can help me. I found this tiny gecko the other day at work in one of the labs. I used to own some leopard geckos and this little one reminded me of them. However he does not look like a leo. Would you be able to tell me what it is if possible please I will attach a picture to this message. He is a little bigger than a quater in length ... maybe 1 inch and a half. Which brings me to my next question. Can you tell me how to feed such a small gecko? I couldn't give him crickets, he would get eaten by them. Thank you sd much

I find them the same size in my yard when I'm mowing/edging. It's the "hatchling" time of year. You didn't mention where your lab is, but I'm fairly certain it's a Med Gecko, given their propensity towards world domination. See my response below to the Texas Gecko question.

Pinhead crickets and wingless fruit flies ("fruit walks" would be fine. Available online or at some pet stores.

I live in Tampa, FL. That is where I found it. I would like to order those fruit flies. What website can I order these from?

Thanks
Jeremy

WormMan has a "special" with 1 vial (more than you'll use for now) for under 10 bucks. I don't work for them, I'm not an affiliate or anything, just a satisfied customer. You'll have to read when they ship out. I think if you ordered now they'd go out Monday if I recall correctly.

Here's a question--is it bumpy? If the skin is bumpy, it's most likely a Mediterranean gecko. If not, then it's most likely an Indo-Pacific that are found in many parts of Florida, as well

I found one outside my hotel in Austin, Texas. I found one inside my hotel room in the Amazon Basin in Bolivia.

I really like them. I have caught them that size, but if I were you, I'd put the little guy back and go find a bigger one. Easier to feed.

Look near wall mounted light fixtures and more than likely you'll see one. They tend to be not that difficult to catch.

And you have to figure that if they're taking over the world, they probably aren't too hard to keep.
