Milksnake Giants....

Keith Hillson Feb 05, 2006 04:45 PM

Seems that Black Milks are consistantly the biggest Triangulum and probably the biggest of all the Lampropeltis. Seems they commonly reach 6' while Hondurans are all over the map in size from bigguns' like TD posted to others that only reach 3-4'. Im curious as to what you guys have thats big. Whats your biggest Milk? What is it what sex and post pics if ya got em. The size comments are from my limited Milk experience and Im sure some have conflicting thoughts or observations.

Keith,

I gotta agree with you on that. While there's always some giants, I think on average black milks are the biggest. They seem to average 5 feet, while hondos seem to average 4 feet. Norm Damm has one or two 6 six foot Hondurans, but these are over 20 years old. The largest Honduran I have is approaching 5 feet. She was hatched in 1988 (photo below).

Back in the 80s I saw a Pueblan on a dealer's pricelist that was 4 feet long. At the time I thought that was gigantic for a Pueblan...but then I saw Mark's (antegy) post...I reckon I ought to start feeding my Pueblans a little more.

Louis Porras measured a honduran that was 8 feet long. I think there is a photo of it in the Vivarium article on hondos.

Yes Ive posted that pic not too long ago. What do you think in regards to Gaigeae being the biggest on average of the Triangulum ?

I agree that they are the biggest. There are some hondurans that will get to 6 feet (or more) but many gaigeae will get that large. I think if you lined up 100 of each and measured them, the black milks would be bigger.

I always wondered since I havn't invested too much time in milksnakes. GOOD topic, as I am curious myself!

Here's some BIG Lampropeltis (Eastern Kings): (remember the first one Keith?)
First pic is a 7.5 year old male "Georgia Boy", measuring exactly 6 foot.
Next one is a pic of the late "Big John" my biggest king ever who passed away just last year He was right at 6'5"!!!. . .

BIGGER IS BETTER (at least in lampropeltis)!!!

Those are nice Zee and its a shame that the old male died. The biggest snakes Ive ever owned or snake is a female Black Milk that was well over 6' and mighty strong. I had a Eastern that was close though. You need to pick up a pair of these man they are awesome and as powerul as any colubrid you ever held. Here is my yearling male B Milk
