New baby boa lost in CAR!! Please help!

Snakelover_CA Feb 05, 2006 05:30 PM

I feel like such an idiot! I have 3 snakes and 2 weeks ago I got a new baby rainbow boa. I drove to my husband's work to show her to him and she wriggled away from me and got into the space where my windshield wiper controller is.. She has been in the dashboard somewhere for 2 weeks now.

My husband took the whole thing apart (there are parts that can't be taken apart like the stereo) but we couldn't see her). We left the dash apart and I didn't drive the car for 5 days, left a heating pad in it. Then, we bought a mouse and put it in there with a trap my husband made... No luck. Does anyone have any other ideas please??? I have to turn my leased car in on the 24th of this month! I am so sad and I feel like such a jerk to let her get away from me.. I don't think she could have gotten out of the car.. How long can she live without food and water? She apparently ate a pinkie on 01/19.
Thank you.

I almost lost a baby BCI in 1989 the same way. Fortunately she did not fully get away and was returned to her snakebag for the remainder of the trip.

Lesson for all who read - a car is no place for a snake to be out of it's (very secure) container.

Bottom line is they can live without food for months, Water they will need much sooner. IMO two weeks may already be too long. You'd be amazed at the small size of hole/crack it could have escaped through. Best way I can think of to find it would be to allow car to be on the cool side. Provide water and warmth along with a nice warm/moist place to hide and hope the baby finds it.

Very sorry to hear of your escapee and wish you luck.
