Average weight and length of females

rosey-b Feb 05, 2006 06:48 PM

I know ball pythons range in size from 3' to 5', but is it typical to have a female in the lower range? Approximately what would a smaller female weigh? I have a 3.5' female and I'm worried she's too small; after reading some other posts, it seems like everyone else's girls are huge! Thanks for any info.

not all females that we have are huge. I have one female that is over 3 yrs and still not up to breeding weight. She eats like crazy for 8 months and won't eat anything for 4 and looses all the weight she gained the previous eating season. She is right now about 3 feet and just at 1100g. She will be one of those older females that breeds at 1200-1500 grams and gives a decent clutch of 4-6 eggs. Not all females grow up to be 4000 gram giants.

Thanks Josh! That makes me feel a lot better. I'm not planning on breeding her, I just want to make sure she's happy and healthy. By the way, how old are ball pythons when they stop growing in length?

they just grow slower as they mature, like all reptiles.
