I already posted the three venomous snakes we saw in costa rica, most notably the Oropel, but we saw a ton of other things you guys might be interested in, so here is a link.

Oh, the Imantodes spp was likely a cenchoa with unusual markings.

Having already visited that lovely country twice, I really enjoyed the pix. Much of it showed areas I have seen. The herping down there is good, but the birding is even better..for those who are so inclined. Thank you for sharing.

Costa Rica, on the whole, is an incredible country.... especially the Osa peninsula area. The 2006 trip excluded a visit to the Osa, and I was pretty sad about it. The rest of the country is absolutely amazing, and it was an amazing experience to drive the country in a van, but I realized what a special place the Osa is by seeing the rest....it truly is different from the rest of the country.

Yes...the birding is amazing... in a way, more exciting than the herping, because the birds turn up every few seconds, and keep you occupied until you can find a snake!

On the bottom of the slide show there is the Emerald Toucanet... cool little mini-toucans which we saw all over Volcan Poas! It was freezing up there....I really could have used a hot water bottle... but all these toucanets were hopping all over the place despite the cold.

...Anyone considering a toucan for a pet, might want to look into the emerald toucanets... they are about the size of a grapefruit.

I should get the trip report up pretty soon, by the end of next week, for anyone interested...as well as an extra page for monkeys...

Pura vida!
