DANDELION AS FOOD

peach749 Feb 06, 2006 02:53 PM

hello I was wondering if anyone new if you could give your dragon the actual dandelion flower. I have a huge yard full of them and pesticide free of course and I will also be washing them before I give them to the dragons. also can you freeze them.

really, you mean you can feed them that bright yellow, annoying, can't get rid of in the yard flower??? I didn't know that I thought it was just the greens you buy in stores.

the greens underneath the 'annoying flower' are better for them but they do love the flower itself also, just make sure you and your neighbors don't use any pesticides or chemicals on your yard.

The dandilion flower is fine for bearded dragons. As others have already pointed out. Just make sure no fertilizers or insecticides are being used on your lawn or neighboring lawns (the sprays and grains could blow into your yard or seap into the soil on your side, specially if you are slightly downhill from neighbors).

I don't see any problem with freezing the flowers, though they may get soft and limp when thawed. I would deffinitely thaw to room temperature, making sure there is no ice left at all.

Dandilion flowers are a nice colorful topping to mix with the dragon's regular greens. Other edible flowers are hisbiscus, pansies and others.

I don't know where you shop but the stores around here don't carry that type of green. I live on the east cost VA Beach area. I also did some looking around and saw a pic of someone hand feeding a dragon the entire flower and stalk. then I looked it up. it says the greens are good for the like normal but the bud is a sweet treat for them and is also good for they. I think I'm going to be doing some picking tomorrow with my little girl. hey ill save a few dollars in the produce dept for a few weeks.
