Micromanaging - continued

Apparently my post got lost when the topic of the the thread took a turn but I would still like everyone's input on it - here it is once again:

Last year, Carlton and I worked with PHWyvern (moderator, for those who don't know) to get the Cham Resource article and setup questions posted as a permanent part of the cham forum. We discussed the need for FAQ and Wyvern was all for it, but our time (and of course my personal experience) was limited. So my thought is this: maybe Tyler, Bill, Reptayls, Carlton, Chris Anderson, kinyonga, Eric A. and/or others (sorry, don't mean to leave anyone out ) could collaborate on putting together a FAQ section where newbies as well as anyone reevaluating their setup, can refer to. Or maybe it would be just a few of you, but the need is there. Who better for this to come from, but the experienced keepers and reputable breeders. Just a thought, and one I hope comes to fruition.

that's it

Just to let everyone know, PHWyvern (you mentioned helped you and Carlton put the chameleon resourses together) and you said she was a moderator.

*** Actually PHWyvern is my BOSS LOL ***
She is wonderful, and happens to be site coordinator for All of Kingsnake.

So anthing you would want seen on the chameleon page, after it is finished, PHWyvern would handle.

I agree it would be nice to see. If you think about, the experts have beautiful animals and so many of them! Look at Jim F's collection, there is no way he has time to mother all his chams the way that I can mother my four of them. I learned a lesson with Chloe, and I'm applying it to Rana, and that's very few feedings a week and misting only twice a day. Maybe someone can start a care sheet and email it around and others can add to it, or take from it. I also want to thank Billy for starting the thread and others for adding to it. It's something that has needed to be done for a while.
Thanks guys!!

Your post never got lost to me....but I have to go back and read all the posts in that thread (I just skimmed over them)...too3 little time in the last few days.

It would be good to have certain FAQ information somewhere here where people could look before they ask the questions on the forum for sure. I get tired of repeating stuff that was just put in an answer a few days before...and I'm sure others of you are tired of that too...and yet I don't want to let the questions go unanswered. On my old computer I had a lot of FAQ answers in a file and I could just cut and paste...but they are not in this computer...and I can't access the other computer right now. If someone starts it off, I'd be glad to read what they put together and comment/add to it...but I don't get much time on the computer.

The point of the cham resource page was to cover alot of those questions such as links, articles, vet info and setup questions. I have posted a few times to remind people it is there in the header, as a sticky at the top of the posts and in my sig (feel free to use it in your sig if you want - it is "property" of KS). Many of the links you had I am sure are in that article. I, too did the copy and paste and that is where much of it came from.

As for the FAQ a couple of you more experienced keepers and breeders could get a little team together (though the fewer might be easier) and put something together then run it by Wyvern. It will take a little time but the setup questions could be a base for it. Take each question and then do some FAQ from there.

Someone needs to take the reins on this one.

Hello LELE,still waiting for your little guy I bet your excited. On the topic at hand . I kinda think it would be a little hard for the more experienced peopl on the forum to do this as in giving hard core help like diagnosing illnes and desease. With chams even if the husbandry is perfect sometimes things happen. Its kinda like in herp or medical mags in the Q&A sections the doctor will give general diagnosis but is always followed by "see a doctor to be sure" or "I would have to see in person" I could take advice from these guys and pic it apart from my own experiences, but the newbie could get confused. The fact is I could have done thing a certain way and give advice but really it is my own opinion of the fact and it might not work for the person.I would feel bad if something bad were to happen just because thier description of the prob was screwed up or their was a more underlying prob.I think the idea of the general husbandry sheet is good.If people have Q's I will tell them what I would do but also refer them to Chris Andersons site or something. Cham keeping is alot harder and indepth to figure out than most herp husbandry I dont know how many people I have convinced to get a beardie as a first herp instead of getting a cham. I love this forum especially since we have some serious dialog going on here.I know it gets a little frustrating hearing all the newbie ?'s just because they didnt read or research before buying but it kinda goes with the teritory being a forum and all.just my thought.
also try to get some more pics of your new baby asap I am really excited for you
later

Hi Kevin,

yes, I am getting anxious about my little guy! Deanna keeps sending me pics and I am going to get the cage set up in a couple weeks and get back in the habit of having more feeders around!

As for the FAQ...I don't see it as diagnosing or taking the place of a vet trip. It would be Q&A or Fact/Myth re: setup, stress, handling, temps, offering water, humidity, etc. If you go to the setup questions on the resource page you will get an idea of what I mean. That list is pretty comprehensive as to what needs to be considered before getting the cham but questions about those points are what need to be answered. I would do an outline, but do not have the time. Any "free" writing time needs to be a moneymaker for me right now

Here are two comprehensive beardie sites to give an idea of how it might be set up.

www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/GeneralCare.html
www.beardiedragon.com/pages/Care/BD_Care_QA.html (this one has a drop down menu and it certainly would not have to be that labor intensive, just FAQ on one page(s).

you said:
...I know it gets a little frustrating hearing all the newbie ?'s just because they didnt read or research before buying but it kinda goes with the teritory being a forum and all.

yes, to some degree and that is why the resource page was created. For me, if I am thinking of asking a Q to a forum I have not been to before I do a search over the recent couple weeks (at least) to see if I can find it covered. Granted, not everyone will do that, but if we can at least send them to the FAQ page and then have them come back with specific questions it may save time and effort. But then again, other than me and maybe 2 or 3 other poeople I don't even see the Resource page linked or suggested. I think I have taken this as far as I can, someone else will have to pick up the ball...

The MORE experienced chameleon keepers on here could do it quite easily.

I made one for my own collared site ( a bit rough around the edges but works for now) Nothing Fancy :0) but has all sorts of info, mostly put together from what questions are asked the most on the collared forum. And it DOES help many.

I'm sure the names mentioned by Lele, here on the chameleon forum that are experienced keepers/breeders could come up with something really EXCELLENT.

My Collared FAQ page *Still under construction
