vents in a boa cage?

evercraig190 Feb 06, 2006 07:12 PM

what does everyone suggest using for air circulation in a boas cage...vents, peg board, holes drilled?...i was planning on using peg board for the cage im building now, but i havent put the back on yet..would it be smarter to put vents or just drill holes in a solid piece of wood?..and are the vents strong enough to withstand the pressure from an adult snake?...thanks for the help..its great learning something new every day....

to keep your humidity up, minimize your vent size. Snakes don't need a lot of air but most do better with higher humidity. My BRB's NEED high humidity and my other boa's seem to thrive on higher humidity, helps with shedding.

Of course with higher humidity you have to keep up on cleaning but you should be doing that anyways. I check all my cages at least daily and clean any that are dirty. Usually I check in the morning before work and take care of any obvious bombs that went off. In the evenings I check every cage, opening every one to check hides etc. and clean any that have been soiled.
Right now that's 36 cages and about 24 hatchling tubs.

My BRB breeding cages have a 2" round vent per section, that's all. The doors are fairly close fitting so little ventilation there.
