having problems with my stenodactylus please help

kurma Jul 26, 2003 10:49 AM

ok I've had a trio for a couple of weeks now, petstore had them two weeks before I got them they are WC. I have them in a 24'',24'',10''H cage with play sand, a water dish and three hide boxes and a flat rock. One hide area is a plastic hide from eco something (sorry went blank) and one is a plastic containter filled with damp spagnum moss, the last hide area is used the most it two rocks firmly pressed in the sand touching the ground and then a large rock over them. The humid hide and the real rocks are over a 11'' X 14'' heat matt that sticks to the bottom of the tank (under neath) its set at 90 with a reostat ( make the surface of the sand 90). I change the water everyday and mist in the morning half of the cage ( it drys very fast, I'm in vegas). I fede them everyday dusted crickets (with rep cal calcium with out vit. D3 6 days a week and 1 day a week repcal calcium and vit D3 and herptivite) the crikets eat flucker farm food and water and veggies and greens). I have been putting in about 9-15 small crickets in everyday at first I'd take out everything in the cage and then feed them but I fealt they weren't ready fot that ( they would try to get out running bacj and forth on the glass) so now just dump the food in after they were all out and leave them be (been doing this for a week now). One has taken a complete 180 filled out and tail in base is bigger an all, the other were doing good too but one now seems to be going down hill has lost weigth , I clean the cage today and found about 30 crivkets still not eatten . I wasn't happy seeing so many get away maybe there is too much for them to hide in (they weer all under the flat rock do)? What should I do since there new animals and WC stressed, I don't like watching them I don't think it helps. So its hard to monitor there food intake with out disturbing them.
