Spiny tail iggy

Idothatforme Feb 06, 2006 10:36 PM

Hey everyone!
There is an impressive looking spiny tail at my local petshop that is about 2 and a half to 3 feet long. from what i know he was dropped off by a previous owner due to agression. as a keep of an ornate nile that i have tamed i think i am going to be able to calm this iggy down. anyone have any good suggestions? I have read they dont get as large as a green iguana and they can eat some meat and mostly greens. i have a tank with a side door that has the same deminsions as a 4 breeder but its 3 feet high. think that will last me a while for a 3 foot lizard (a month or two?)

Sooo...
Yeah, spinys can be a real pain in the @$$, but many can be wonderful pets if taken for what they are.

Diet is said to be 90% veggie, 10% meat. Some day 80-20.
Their teeth are different from green iguanas, suggesting they are designed to grab, penetrate, and hold food.

If you managed to tame a nile, it does not mean you will be able to tame a spiny. However, it does mean you are well capable of handling and putting up with one. After all, niles' rep is famous.

3 foot tall will temporarily do... for a month. Find it an enclosure, or build one, for an adult iguana. BIG.

Add lots of rocks, big ones, making sure they are secured and won't crush the animal. Make it tall, with plenty of climbing areas. Basically a less-tropical version of an iguana enclosure.

Check out the other forum, and the web for additional info.

Good luck!
