Sorry the other pic was so large. Her is a better pic of the new enclousure. A bit much for two of these little guys, but when I built it, I had my 24" male Eastern in mind.

did artcat tell you were he got those tri-hogs? they look good and healthy.
JIM
These two were from some of Artcats breeders. He said they were Napa Valley and Mark Bell bloodlines. I really do not know much about the different breeders of Tricolors, but these two arrived in GREAT shape! I will feed them for the first time tomorrow. Figured a day for them to settle down a bit (plus tomorrow is when my mice arrive
) I am excited, after losing all 4 of my Easterns in 6 months, I was quite disheartened. My husband said I was like a kid on Christmas Eve, waiting for these two to get here!!

Where are all the tricolor hognose breeders from? I also purchased my pair from Stephen Emerick of Napa Valley Snakes in California, who no longer post on this forum. I wish I asked him where he purchased his breeding stock. Whether they were wild caught or captive bred.
top pic male, bottom pic female

Where did you get your breeders from Jim??
And what happened to the Napa Vally website? I try to go there and it is just a blank screen.
Beautiful snakes Lystrophis...very bright

Stephen Emerick of Napa Valley Snakes used to be listed on the
Kingsnake.com Breeders list through end of 2004 and used to post on this forum. It seems he has quit the snake breeding business.
The two tricolor hogs I purchased from him, a male in 2003 and a female in 2004, were at Reptile Shows in California and the neonates he had for sale ranged from very dark phase to very light animals.
Jeana, if one of your new kids is from a Napa Valley Snakes line, when they breed you should have a mix of dark and bright colored offspring.
Dennis
I also purchased several from Stephen Emerick of Napa Valley Snakes in the past and a few last year from Charles Wright and Steve Pisarchik. when I last spoke with Steven Emerick he had just gone through a rough devorce and that seemed to put a hold on his snake breeding for a while. if your out there Steve, how about a update?

Very nice Tri-colored hogs. Also curious, what kind of substrate is that you're using? And where do you purchase it? I use aspen for my hog, but it's not as shredded as what's in your picture. Thanks in advance.
Steve
It is aspen that I bought at Walmart. It is very fine, and I only used maybe 1/3 of the bag. The whole bag was less than $3. It comes very compressed, so you have to crumple it up with your fingers to loosen it. I Found it with the hampster stuff. These guys love it as it is very easy to burrow through and makes great tunnels.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to check one of the Walmarts near me to see if they have that type of aspen.
Steve
I buy aspen at walmart too, and sometimes it's the nice shredded fluffy stuff and sometimes it's a bit more 'chip-like' (not bad, but not as soft). I think it just depends on the bag, but if you look at it through the plastic you can probably tell the difference. And it's definitely nice and cheap--much cheaper than I've found it at pet stores.
It's getting about time to upgrade my hog from her sterilite shoebox to something bigger like the pics posted......
