New game for those that want to play.........

rainbowsrus Feb 07, 2006 03:24 PM

The game is........How big are your breeders?

I was playing with serpentine widgets snakemeasurer program last night and got lengths on all my adults and was a little surprised how close in length all the ones I raised from babies were.

Four females from 93 and 94 ranged from 71.5" to 78.5"
Two holdback females from 01 were 67.75" and 68.25"

The two males from 93 and 94 were 76.75" (93) and 74.25" (94)

The females ranged in weight from 4lb, 8oz to 9lb, 3oz

The one adult female I acquired two years ago is smaller at 61" and 4lb, 1oz

I was going to say that I didn't want to play because I've seen how gigantic your females are but 9 pounds!! That's enormous. Are you sure your feeder rats aren't getting into the miracle-gro? Has she defecated recently? (ha,ha that's a BIG joke)

I'd like to hear some of the weights on other people's big females. I'll try to geat a weight on mine as well. I' don't think she's a 9-pounder though.

...I must complete several actions that I'm unwilling to do now. I should buy a scale and weigh and than measure my snakes. Yeah, yeah, I know I should have a scale already, but I don't. The only documented info on mine are that in 05 I produced 14 babies from a proven 56" male (weighed in 02 at 4 lbs 9ozs) to a female that weighed 3 lbs 5 ozs when received 3 months prior to the breeding and was 2 1/2 yrs old at that weight. Sounds to me like your BRB's are bigger than mine!

LOL, yeah mine are monsters. I was REALLY good at feeding them post 2005 litters. They gained back all they lost, and then some!!

Only recently found the serpwidgets snakemeasurer application. Pretty easy to use, simply take an overhaed pic of the snake with a ruler also included. Define units with the ruler. Draw point to point down the snakes spine and the program returns the lenght of the line you just drew. Pretty cool and seems to be very accurate.

Dave,
...None of my BRBs are as heavy as yours. Most of my females that are over 6 feet long weigh around 7 pounds. One that died gravid a couple years ago did weigh 9 something. I always emphasize the importance of weight when people ask about breeding BRBs. I think the size of your breeders and your excellent results from last year add credence to this. I did just weigh my largest Peruvian Rainbow and she weighs 9 pounds 11 ounces. Measuring her inaccurately with a tape measure she seems to be around 6.5 feet. Next time I am shooting PICs I will do an overhead with a ruler in the PIC. My biggest Surinam Boa is around 8.5 or 9 feet but impossible to stretch out against a tape measure. The snakemeasuring program may be the only way to know for sure just how big she is.
Jeff
