Live rats/Frozen???

MotaRaider Feb 07, 2006 03:34 PM

I have a question about how one would go about killing live rats to feed to my BP and Red tail boas. Obviously i can just whack them on the head before i feed them, but if i wanted to freeze them, how would i go about killing them humanely? I know the larger breeders use CO2 chambers to do this, is that the only way? Also does anybody know how to build a CO2 chamber for this purpose? Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Jason

If you want to kill them humanely, use car exaust. It doesn't even need to be sealed, the CO molecules bond with red blood cells and prevent O2 cells from bonding with said red blood cells.

Just put the cage with mice in it next to the car exause, maybe use a hose or tube to help it get into the cage. They will get sleepy and pass out, but they will be buzzed and won't understand what is happening.

That is the most humane way I can think of.

CO is more humane than CO2, by the way.

CO2 just causes asphyxiation.
