Young Colombian

zookeepnhippie Feb 07, 2006 06:53 PM

Hey, I have a young male bci. He is about 2 feet long (just barely). He eats 2 small-ish adult mice every week without hesitation. However, I can distinguish his backbone down most of his body and can feel it pretty prominently for the second half of his body. I am not sure if he would eat a bigger size mouse (the ones he is eating do leave a decent lump) Should i feed more than two? He doesnt seem unhealthy at all. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kirby

I have seen several young boas that show the backbone, and from what I have notice out of most of those is they are growing in lenght faster than they can keep up with as far as girth. They seem to catch back up once they hit the 3.5-4.0 ft mark.Dont get me wrong there may be an intestinal parasite problem,so maybe you she take a fecal to the vet.Its a pretty cheap test.Hope this helps!JOHN

From the pic he looks fine. If I were you I would get him started on a rat pup a week. They seem to grow a little faster on rats.

I would love to do rat pups, but I have two problems, One is that I cant buy rat pups anywhere where I live, and the second stems from that because I cant get him to eat f/t and I dont want him getting skinnier while I wait for him to decide he will go ahead and eat the f/t.
That pic is from about a month or two ago, I will try and take a pic in a few minutes and post it after this.
I will take a fecal to the local vet who says he can do them, hopefully hes right, Im in the mountains in North Carolina so we dont really have an abundance of reptile vets here.
Thanks for the advice
