Dan, that has to be one of the best looking Thayeri you've produced too. That thing is screaming!! You can sell that one to me along with a pair of melanistics I'm looking for as well.
Take Care and congratulations Mexicana forum!

Must be like the Sports Illustrated curse.

Rick Millspaugh Feb 09, 2006 10:53 PM

15 years ago, you couldn't touch a Thayeri for under $100 and they were ONLY sold in pairs. Then, just as the hot colors were becoming available, they fell from favor. Now people are once again discovering how awesome they are! It's thanks to work guys like you, Bob, Tim, and others have done with them... THANKS!

Thanks Rick, but we all play a part in the popularity of Mexicana. I'm just an enthusiast like everyone else.

Mexicana in general are all very interesting kingsnakes, but the Variable King definitely deserves the Awareness Award. Those of us who keep them know how interesting the San Luis Potosi King can be, and once you have a few they are also a very difficult habit to control. However, you certainly can't deny the popularity of thayeri; they are about 95% of what we all talk about!

All the pioneers in thayeri breeding certainly deserve a major pat on the back, there's no question about that. I'm certain we all have a tremendous amount of respect for every one of them. As Rick mentioned, without the work and devotion of these guys over the years, most of us probably wouldn't even be here. Likewise, every one of us getting involved more recently has such a high level of interest and enthusiasm over these snakes, how could they not become.....

The undeniable... COOLEST KINGSNAKE ON THE PLANET!!!

Thayeri rule, that's all there is to it. Raise just a couple of these things and you know the truth!

That is one heck of a great looking collection, Mike. All exxxxcellent looking examples of the l.m. thayeri sub-species.

That intermediate is one of the BEST, if not the best intermediate I've ever seen. Have you got any recent pics of that Gebhard intermediate Mike? I'd love to see how she progressing. Is she big enough to breed this year? If she is, we need to talk. That's one area of my own collection I'd like to fill, that and maybe a melanistic.

Thanks for the kind words Chris, thayeri certainly are well appreciated mexicana. I don't think too many folks could honestly say they don't like them.

I don't have a recent pic of the female, I've attempted that a time or two with her, but she is one of those that is next to impossible to get to pose for the camera. When she gets out of her tub, sitting still is the last thing on that girl's mind. I can tell you that her orange isn't nearly as bright as it once was, turning a bit of a burnt-orange, but I bought her for that near perfect pattern so I'm not at all disappointed. I have some good males to clean and sharpen that color up if all goes well but it is going to take patience. She was a slow starter from 2004 and is just beginning to go full speed, so it will be another 2 years with her at least. I would expect you to produce a nice intermediate or two from your awesome group before this girl does.

How are your two yellow keepers from last year doing?

Talk with you later...

Mike

Hey Mike

Great tribute but quit giving us teasers and finish up the site! hehe jk. Btw, we've been getting spring time weather here in Cali and the animals are starting to get active again. You know what that means right? *wink* Talk to you later.

Hey Bro,

Man, I've been trying to get on a roll with that thing here, but I've reorganized my schedule somewhat to allow more free time on the weekends up north with my little Darlin'. I work full time and care for the animals during the week, and spend time with her on the weekend which unfortunately leaves me little time for making pretty pictures of beautiful kingsnakes. Someday I may have that place on the web to exist along with here, I'm just not sure how soon but I'm in no hurry.

Still pretty darn cold over here in Illinois, but it won't be too long before all the young studs begin warming up for the summer. So yes indeed my friend, I definitely do know what that means. I'll be jumping out of my skin with excitement here before I know it, and telling one of my little friends to have a great summer getaway!

Talk with you soon...

Mike
