Strange ball feeding behavior

electricbluescat Feb 07, 2006 09:41 PM

I have a young adult female ball, she seems to prefer me placing the f/t rat in her coils and moving it around with hemostats she then coils it tightly till she constricts it. I have tried just dropping the f/t rat in her feeding container and usually she does not go for it. Anyone else had anything
similar like this to happen?

thanks,

jc

Some snakes are slower to pick up on feeding on the dead, movement triggering their feeding response. Make sure you warmed the food item above room temps so her heat pits see it, and yes using hemostats to fake like you're a wiggling or running mouse is pretty common...makes my wife laugh at us. But go with what works, each snake is unique.

I think she actually prefers for it to be places in her coils I have another female ball that will grab f/t rat as soon as she smells it. The strange one has tried to bite me before though it was my error she was in feeding mode and I went to grab her to put her back in the rack after she just got done eating. I can't wait to be breeding them in a season or two.

If it works don't fix it, they always say. Consider at least she eats...which is better than many!
