kribby83 Feb 08, 2006 02:08 AM

Lele, that's a great idea. Did you make that harness or buy it?
My boy stay's close to me outside but i don't trust my girl as much and i'm afraid she'll hide in a rock wall or a tree or sumthin, i'd love to have sumthin like you mentioned for her. Let me know where you bought it

THANKS!

i've seen a harness at regular pet store. Only it had a picture of an iguana on it.

I got an idea if you are worried about losing your pet outside. you'll need to go to some party store and get a small helium tank. You attach a baloon with helium in it to a piece of yarn which is carefully attached to your pet. this floating baloon is not only a good indicator of the location of you pet but if can actually ward off predators like a hawk or racoon. Not sure if it would scare your dragon though and might look a little funny.

yeah, but if your beardie makes a break for it you will then have to recover both the beardie and the balloon from that really big tree! LOL

yeah, no i don't think i'll be lettin them go THAT far, thanks tho anyways, that's pretty funny.
Theres an old colonial house in no. providence, its kinda a parc/reserve area and NO ONE goes there. behind the old house theirs some nice land, paths and a stream. i used to bring my boy there, he loves basking in the real sun! i can't wait till spring again so we can go there. i dance and i just let him wander, keepin an eye on him. there's an old rock wall too. it's soo funny he's scared to death of airplanes! the poor guy, he has no idea what they are! every time he hears one zoom by he looks up and then runs into the rock wall, you'll see his tail stickin out, its so funny. and there are overgrown grasses and an herb garden and clovers and everything! CAN'T WAIT TIL IT GETS WARMER!

well, not really, but he thinks he knows. To a dragon, a plane has a very eery resemblance to a hawk, or any other airborne predator. People seem to think that when their reptiles start acting weird/aggressive when their outside, it's because of all the UV 'bringing out the wild in them'. I don't believe that though. I just think they feel way more susceptible to predators, and are a lot more on edge because of that.

I don't understand the facination with lizard leashes and things of that nature. Can you really not outrun your dragon? I suppose if there's a lot of trees around, or places where a dragon could hide, but if that's the case, you're probably not picking the right spot for a basking lizard to hang out outside (if you want to keep it, that is )

One of our beardies is a German Giant--we use the ferret-sized leash for her! Our local PetsMart and PetCo (I know they are yucky stores to purchase reptiles at) have these as well as our independent reptile store.

kribby83 Feb 08, 2006 12:17 PM

wow, you have a german giant! that's awesome, i'd love to have one of those someday! how big is your boy/girl? i'd love to see pics.

yeah thanks, i guess i'll have to go to Petco, they are so evil, everyone i go to i end up arguin with the manager about their emaciated/no UV/lettuce fed uro's/beardies. ARRGH some pet stores suck!

You can make your own bearded dragon harness. Some good instructions can be found here, under the heading 'bearded dragon harness'

yeah, i've seen these instructions on this site, it's great, i'd like to do it i'm not sure what i can cut up though that's soft leather...hmm..

my male wouldn't mind this, but he doesn't need it, it'd be for my girl lily, and she's more tempermental! she does what she wants, when she wants it. kunja even has an Xmas outfit and tie we made for him. he'll put up with anythin... but Lily.... i dunno, i don't think she'll dig the harness thing..oh boy will she squirm and tail whip! I should get one ready for the summer tho, it's comin just round the corner!

I use the iguana harnesses that can conform to your bearded dragon's size. I have used them often with my two dragons for a quick walk outside with no problem. They do not appear bothered by it either, and it is a lot safer than having them go without. From my experience, there is no way, if the fit is a good one, that the dragon can get out of the harness, yet it doesn't look uncomfortable.

Zilla never minds the harness. I've even used it inside some, when I want to let him wander but not hide too deeply in anywhere. He won't use it like a leash...you can't walk him with it. But it will keep him in a certain area.

I believe that there is a great pet store around that area. I think the store is called Regal Reptile. I used to live in Westerly RI. So if you live near westerly, i know that Pets Plus on granite street had the leash. I've acutally sold some babies last year to pets plus.

Rhode Island is great, the whole state has one area code!

Hi kristen - doesn't it just drive you nuts when someone posts something and then disappears! lol!

Anyway, if no one else answered yet (did not read every post) I paid less than $5 for it a pet store. They come in several colors (I was looking for purple but couldn't find).. I think it is made by Four Paws. it is only 6' which does not give much room to wander, but great if bd is just on your shoulder. I attach a long rope to it so he has more lead.
