I have two FBTs.. I wasn't the one to pick them out so I didn't
get the privilage of getting two that were closer in weight, but
my friend got them for me, and she picked one that was plump
and another that was average weight. They've grown a lot since
I got them, but, generally the plump one stayed plump and the
'average' one fluctuates between average and skinny. Ahh, when
I first got them I thought I had a male and a female because
I'd hear the breeding calls, but I realized both were male
when I heard them both calling. I worried when they would start
fighting after one would try to attempt amplexus with the other,
and I asked on talkto.thefrog.org, and they told me not to
worry unless one got skinny from not getting as much food.
I would venture to say the plump one is now obese. Skinny hasn't
gained much weight. I try to feed them when both of them are out
of hiding, Skinny hides much more and the overweight one always
seems to be visible. If I feed them while Skinny is hiding, Skinny
does not get any crickets at all. Their diet is crickets, and
when I need to go to the store to get more crickets, they get
freeze-dried mealworms for a day or two, fed from a spoon since Skinny will
only eat things that move. I'm going to try and add another variation
of food to their diet now. Well, I think the obese one is
fairly healthy, he catches his food easily and is always out
in the open. Skinny comes out every night and is the only one
now to attempt amplexus, but he hides A LOT more, not that I mind
that he's hiding but it makes me worry. He also tends to be
darker in color, but once he stays out in the light a while both
will be the same bright color. Lately he has not only been
going in a rock cave-type thing I have in for a waterfall, but
wedging himself between a ledge on the inside and the water.
I have fixed it so that he won't get stuck, but he is spending
more time in there. I have not even been able to feed him mealworms
lately, although when both were out the other day he got a lot
of crickets.. I sort of think he's sick, he's active, but he hides,
but he doesn't get as much food and he even has a harder time
getting the mealworms and has to go for them 2-3 times to get
them, when the round one can get them first shot.
I think I'll go to the petstore today and get a little terrarium
and start feeding him individually; or should I seperate them?
I have an extra 10 gallon tank.
What do you think?
