Plastic Tub Without the Rack

boz8883 Feb 08, 2006 12:00 PM

Hi. I have a baby ball python who is refusing to eat in a 20g aquarium. So, I'm contemplating setting up a plastic tub type enclosure for him. How would I do this without a rack? And what size tub would he require. He's a baby, about 14 inches. I have over head heat lamps on him right now. Is there a way to include these? Or should I scrap them and go for the Flexwatt? Thanks.

Back in my Dorm days I used stacked rubbermaid sweater boxes no rack. These worked really well infact they were all I used. For heat I used 12" of 3" heat tape between each tub. It worked but by no means was it practical. You can make anything work although I am not quite sure a heat lamp would be efficient. I would go for the heat tape myself.
Good Luck

Can I just place the heat tape on the desk/stand that the plastic tubs are sitting on? Do I need space between the heat tape and the tub? I've never used heat tape before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

>>Can I just place the heat tape on the desk/stand that the plastic tubs are sitting on?

Yes but I would not sit it directly on a nice finished piece of furniture. Not that it will hurt it I just wouldn't chance it.

>>Do I need space between the heat tape and the tub?

Yes but most tubs have feet they add enough space usually. The main concern is that the feet don't actually sit on the tape this may cause the tape to burn through. When I used this method I taped the heat tape to the bottom of the tub itself.

Hope that helped.
