Who was that knocking on my door?

Whatever could there be in these boxes?

Ahh...I get it now.

A little straight eye for the slithering guy here and there...

And everyone loves their new rooms.

Heh. She wasn't exactly thrilled with having to deliver my "cabinets".

Hey Matt, notice anything on the top left of the first 421D stack? ; )

Are those boaphile cages? Sorry, I'm not too familiar.

Those cages are sweet.
Just wish we could get them in the UK/Europe.
May have to try and set up a european dealership with Jeff.

I crumble the tape into balls, and then put them together to form statues, figurines and action heroes. Then they sit on top of the cages keeping vigil for a while... they make sure noone steps out of line in the snake room... lol

Beautiful set up!

Best wishes, Bci Joe

Heh, I actually used some of it to attach the heat probes, until I take the time to drill a small pilot hole in the back of the bottom stack.

Isn't it easier to simply sandwich the probe between two of the cages? Right in the middle of the heat panel.

That would take a reading from the bottom of the cage, not from the inside.

We use shredded aspen as substrate, so we also have to take into consideration what temps the aspen soaks up.

You are correct, that does measure the underside of the cage. This method gives a very accurate reading of the heating element. Then using a heat gun, you determine the heating element temp you need to get the cage temps you want. Big plus is no holes in cage and no probe getting soiled/moved by your snake. You will notice the floor aver the heating element is not 100% uniform in temps. Not large fluctuations but still, you need to use temp gun no matter how you place the probe to ensure the average temps are correct

That's good advice. I may give that a try. The Herpstat II that we have is capable of synchronizing it's power levels to compensate for the difference in temp readings.

*sigh* Temp adjustments are always such projects in themselves.

Another plus is if you decide to reconfigure your stacks, no big deal. I have 6-421D's, 3-421T's and 3-421Condo's. Initial plan was to have the 421D's in one stach and the rest in the other. Then circumstances determined I needed more sections in the higher temp stack. Real easy to swap cages arounbd stack to stack and not have to worry about placement of "probe" cage.

I talked to Jeff and that's how he said he does it, too. That's what I'm thinking of doing as well. What do you use for substrate?
I use corrugated cardboard, so there won't be so much of the diffusion of the heat. How much does the surface temp in the cage differ from the temp of the probe underneath the cage?
Did that make sense?
Aaron

I use dimpled craft paper on top of a couple sheets of newspaper. The dimpled craft paper looks really good but seems to need some help with absorbing the liquids.

Only a few degrees different, like I said though, you'll need a temp gun to accurately determine the offset. I use my gun quite often to check temps. rarely do I change the thermosat but still have my first summer to go through where the room temps are higher. (with the boaphiles)
